This old gunslinger dude is trying to retire. He wants to disappear. but that's hard to do when you have a reputation like he does. There's always some young gun hell-bent on taking down the legend to become the legend. But the legend id tired and sick of killin' all the young guns that come gunnin' for him.
This movie came in the midst of Eastwood's Spaghetti Western craze and drew on the virtually unknown (even in Italy) Tonino Valerii and featured Mostly American Deserts for it's open vistas with the exception of La Calahorra, in AndalucĂa, Spain, where the great train scenes were filmed. The look of this movie is very unique and the pacing is slwo enough to draw tension yet punctuated with occasional gunfights to keep it interesting.
Henry Fonda is great as the aging gunfighter who just wants to be left alone and Terrence Hill is quirky as the loner with lightning reflexes.
